Supplier resource
Walmart deduction codes, all 89 of them.
Every adjustment reason code Walmart uses, with the paper code cross-referenced to EDI and searchable by what went wrong.
A code, not
a conversation.
There may come a time when the accounting between your invoice and Walmart's payment does not match. Walmart identifies the reason with a code rather than a phone call, so the code is where every resolution starts.
Codes appear in EDI and again on the check remittance, which means the same deduction can reach two different people in your business before anyone works out what it was for.
-
01
Where the code shows up
In your EDI feed and on the check remittance. Both carry the deduction type, so the money your team is short and the reason for it are always connected by the code.
-
02
Step one is the lookup
Look the code up before anything else and decide whether the claim is legitimate or whether there is a discrepancy. That single step settles a good share of them.
-
03
Then dispute, with records
If your records show the charge is not legitimate, open a dispute in the resolution portal. How that works.
Adjustment reason codes.
All 89 paper codes cross-referenced to their EDI codes. Search by paper code, by EDI value, or by any word in the definition.
Try 22 for merchandise billed not shipped, F1 for the defective EDI code, or type freight to pull up every freight related code at once.

No code matches that search.
The list is printed as the source publishes it. Numbers missing from the run (004 to 009, 016 to 019, 088 to 089, 098 to 149 and 153 to 160) are gaps in the source, not omissions here. Two definitions, 038 and 062, are cut short in the source document itself and are shown exactly as they appear.
Disputing a deduction.
The code tells you what Walmart believes happened. Your paperwork either supports it or it does not.
-
01
Open it in the resolution portal
If your records indicate the charge is not legitimate, that is the first move, and the code is the reference the whole claim hangs on.
-
02
Expect it claim by claim
Walmart traditionally handles these one at a time, which is workable while the volume is low and punishing once it is not.
-
03
Move to bulk upload when it stops scaling
Should the claims begin to become overwhelming, it is possible to join a programme that allows bulk upload of claims and documentation on a quarterly or monthly basis.

01
Build every pallet layer by item
The first layer is item A, the second layer is item B. If a quantity takes more or less than a full layer, make the change at the break point. Do not put the extras on top.
-
02
Embolden the VSN on shipping labels
The distribution centres ask for the VSN emboldened or notated in colour. When a package ends up next to boxes of a similar size, the person unloading can identify the unit far more easily.
-
03
Audit your dimensions and weight
Suppliers need to audit case dimensions and weight to be sure the system holds the correct figures. A wrong case cube quietly produces shortage claims for years.
-
04
Get approval before mixing POs on a pallet
To mix purchase orders on one pallet, suppliers need to be sure they have approval and that the items are slip-sheeted.
-
05
Open a GMT ticket when the load is not yours to fix
If there are issues on the shipment, for example being the second pickup and the first vendor has not maximised their load, open a GMT ticket rather than absorbing the outcome.
